Hello friends, here’s a report from the newly air conditioned Villa Maylandia (now considered a paradise by it’s once overheated denizens). Here are all the works in progress I worked on this week. First up Countdown to Christmas by Blue Ribbon Designs. I really like the little reindeer – he’s adorable.
Yesterday I tripped out to Armadale to see my friend Janine and attend a stitching get together with the stitching girlfriends (Lovely to catch up with you all ladies!) while I was there I pulled out this piece that has been languishing in the bottom of my stitching basket – Spring Violets by Country Cottage Needleworks – I started this for an exchange last year but fell out of love with it and couldn’t finish it in time. While I was with the girls yesterday I felt the love and started work on it again. Sorry for the wrinkles but I just didn’t feel like assembling the ironing board.
And last but certainly not least, an update on the Shores of Hawk Run Hollow. I’m using Hand dyed fibres by Vikki Clayton on Vintage Autumn Gold Edinborough Linen by Lakeside Linens. I’ve been spurred to action on this quite long term WIP by the lovely Barbara and Heather. I’m enjoying working on it again – thanks ladies for the encouragement to start work on it again.
I picked up a little stash whilst I was visiting with Janine (she owns a shop). I got:
- The Goodhart Sampler book recently published by Needleprint.
- Illustrative Blackwork fantasy by Dragon Dreams
- Reindeer Games Ornament by Historic Stitches
- Something Old, Something new by Little House Needleworks
- Venetian Opulence by Mirabilia
- Witches nine by The Primitive Needle
- Quaker Halloween by the Workbasket and
- a couple of cuts of Linen for upcoming projects.
Whew! I’m a very happy girl! Well, here’s wishing you many happy stitches till we next meet!

You have kept your needle busy! I love all three projects. I am so going to enjoy watching Countdown to Christmas grow. And Spring Violets is so sweet, a perfect reminder that winter won’t last forever. On your Shores of HRH, are you using Vikki’s conversion list for the HDF silks or did you make your own? TIA.

Cathy, these are beautiful starts! Can’t wait to see more snaps of them as you continue! I have a question for you regarding the ABC Calligraphie… I got the pattern and I’m stitching away, but wondered if you did the backstitch with one strand or two? The pattern doesn’t specify the backstitch, so I’m not sure if it’s one or two strands 🙂
Thanks for your help!!

Great progress on them all!
I am using good old DMC threads for my Shores, I love your colors!

Hi Cathy! Got your email, I think your right in that you’re doing one strand on all… it’s lovely! I started with two strand for my letters (I’ve done J, I, and C)… do you think it will look funny if I do the one strand for the tendrils, but have two for the alphabet? Thanks for your advise… 🙂

Hi Cathy… me again… I found another blog who shows the ABC Calligraphie ( http://aurelle.over-blog.com/article-22807487.html ) and it seems like she did two strands for the letters, but I can’t tell what she did for the tendrils…
I’d ask her, but unfortunately I don’t speak French 😉

S-W-E-E-T wips!! I’m doing my first Blue Ribbon design and it won’t be my last, I’m really enjoying it–I think the Countdown to Christmas might be #2. Your Shores is beautiful! Love the CCN design, too.

It does feel good to pull out one of the “languishing” WIPs and get going on it again! They look great and I can’t wait to see more.

Oh, haven’t you just been the productive stitcher!! Lovely, lovely. And you are racing ahead of me with Shores. I’m still on the sails. LOL!

You have been very busy. Looks like a great list of stash you purchased.
Isn’t air-conditioning just wonderful, especially considering the weather we have all been having.
